HEALTHSTART is a unique initiative taken up by Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala, Founder, Digestive Health Institute and Chairman of Institute of Minimal Access Surgical Sciences and Research Centre, Saifee Hospital, Mumbai, to fix the source of the problems that cause obesity. In Dr. Lakdawala’s practice over the years he has seen children who have come to him with sugar addictions, eating disorders like anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. To this end, they focus on three major areas of concern – childhood obesity, eating disorders and corporate wellness. It is their belief, rooted in years of experience, that if children are taught to eat right and exercise; if the fear, guilt and myths around food are eliminated; and if they are encouraged to prioritize their wellness as much as their grades, we all stand to benefit as individuals and a society.

The aspects they would like to cover for children are: nutrition, fitness, healthy meals, wellness and mindful choices when it comes to their health. HEALTH START encourages them to think about what makes them feel strong, energetic and be at their best, both in the classroom and in their daily lives. They want them to understand that health does not just mean choosing carrot sticks over chips, or playing outdoors instead of sitting in front of a screen. It also means looking after themselves and being aware of their mind-body wellness so they can recognize when the balance is off and it needs correction. Or when they can do better.

They also engage with parents and teachers to keep them in the loop, understand how to help their children along on this journey, and how to do the same for themselves and their families.

They will ensure that there will be monthly engagements for students organized according to age groups, themed around health, nutrition, fitness and wellness, quarterly workshops for parents and teachers to give them the tools, information and advice they need to support their children, themselves and their families, coaches to introduce the students to physical activity and encourage them to make it a part of their daily routines, counsellors/experts on call for more personalized, specific interventions, recipe sheets for parents to send healthy snacks and meals from home, which are easy to prepare, menus for the canteen that are organized by week and changed every quarter to offer healthy, delicious, fun options to the children

Thus, this ensures lesser stress and a better future.

At Univariety, we do not look at Career Guidance as an optional activity which becomes a last minute stress-inducing decision. We look at Career Guidance as a journey that a student needs to make from Middle School starting with a Psychometric Test, followed by timely Guidance from parents, teachers, counsellors, seniors and the School Management itself.
